Destinee stewart
writer/director
Destinee Stewart is a writer and director from Dallas, Texas, based in Los Angeles, whose work explores identity, transformation, and the search for belonging. Through emotionally grounded genre films, she examines how confronting the past can become a path toward liberation. Her stories often follow characters navigating inherited cycles, fractured identities, and the tension between fear and freedom, asking what it means to reclaim oneself in the face of history.
Stewart directed The Inheritance through the prestigious AFI Directing Workshop for Women+, where the film was developed as a proof of concept for her psychological horror feature, Wade in the Water. The feature has been supported by BendFilm: Basecamp and the Cucalorus Writing Residency. Her previous short film, The Other Partners, premiered at the Oscar®-qualifying RiverRun International Film Festival in 2024.
In addition to her narrative filmmaking, Stewart has served as a creative lead on international dubbing productions for Netflix, collaborating on global titles including Iron Chef, Love Is Blind, Represent, and In His Shadow. She is also a Satellite Collective Fellow and has produced award-winning short films by emerging filmmakers.
Whether working in horror, comedy, or drama, Stewart is drawn to stories that illuminate resilience, belonging, and the transformative power of confronting the unknown.
